Rosso Corsa – Cafe Racer inspired by a Ferrari | One Up Moto Garage | Honda 600 | motomacht
Of all the inspiration around and thousands of things to write about, the heart chose custom motorcycles first. And stories like these make my decision justified, thank you Art Henschell and Wesley Reyneke (BikeEXIF).
This motorcycle was built by Taylor Art Henschell at One-Up Moto Garage in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Art Henschell started customizing motorcycles right after finishing college, as customizing motorcycles answers the question he asked himself then “Is there an avenue to express my motorcycle passion, uninhibited by the confines of a traditional day job?” And as an answer he has been creating some magnificent motorcycles for 4 years now, pushing each project to one-up his current best.
The brief for the Rosso Corsa was to create a motorcycle that would match his classic Red Ferrari and he wanted this motorcycle to be inspired by his 1965 NART Le Mans Ferrari. The only engine option shared with him was a Honda 600F (as per the past experiences of the owner, with Honda 600F based motorcycles designed by Art).
As per Art, “There wasn’t any one donor bike to begin with, my inventory is almost entirely a collection of Craigslist finds that I store for future work.”
The creation work for ‘Rosso Corsa’ started with the engine and the frame, both sourced from Honda CB600F. The single sided swing-arm was acquired from a VFR800, which also donated the wheels and the rear shock. The most interesting things in the motorcycle were hand-built.
Starting with the face, “The engine shrouds on Ferraris often have a mesh cover, so I made it to reflect that. On all my builds, creating a unique face-plate is a fun challenge for me.” This very unique superhero-styled mask is made out of stainless rod and perforated metal.
The mask further opens up to provide the a view of the handle console, the super-sleep smartphone mount is stationed on the triple trees and the smartphone once attached works as a virtual speedometer via a mobile app.
The another completely custom a creation is the tank of the motorcycle, created keeping both the bends and clean straight lines in the mind. The tank is made with 18 gauge steel and was hand painted with Ferrari’s signature red sheen. The tank is proceeded by a two-tone leather cover seat in tan on black, inspired by as it is in the vintage Ferraris.
Moving towards the rear end of the motorcycle, Art designed the new sub-frame and the rear suspension and then after the required fitting treatments powder-coated the frame and swing-arm. In addition, Art placed carbon heel guards, motogadget turn signals and two rows of LED lights, which act as the tail light for the motorcycle.
Another appealing cosmetic addition to the motorcycle is the set of Lossa mufflers covering a pie-cut, TIG welded four into two exhaust system.
